ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for Blaster Helper to join our Mine Operations team reporting to the Drill and Blast Supervisor.
Detour Lake is the largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
Agnico Eagle Mines' Detour Lake Mine is situated on the traditional homelands of the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation, Moose Cree First Nation, and Taykwa Tagamou Nation. The Blaster Helper will be responsible to perform all blast duties under the supervision of lead blasters at the Detour Lake Mine.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assist lead blaster with various blasting requirements;
- Assist with blast site hazard assessments to ensure the blast site area is a safe working environment;
- Ensure that all equipment used is in good operating condition;
- Ensure that all regulations both federally (TDG, Explosives Act, Bulk Regulations, WHIMIS) and provincially (Blasting Safety and OH&S Regulations) are adhered to within the operation in regards to personnel, product storage, and product transportation;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory of all products (explosive and non-explosive);
- Maintain open channels of communication with supervisors and other operators, ensuring all communication systems are utilized correctly and effectively;
- Follow defined practices to assure quality, safety and housekeeping standards;
- Promote a positive health, safety and environment culture and the Internal Responsibility System.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
- Grade 12 Diploma or proof of completed equivalency and/or a combination of education/training and experience;
- Minimum one to two years’ work experience in a blasting capacity, preferably open pit mining;
- Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace;
- Experience working at a remote work site is an asset.
