Location: Detour Lake Mine

Rotation: 7 days in, followed by 7 days off or 14 days in, followed by 14 days off

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Electrical Reliability Specialist to join our Process Plant Maintenance team reporting to the Reliability Supervisor.


Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potentialThe open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.


The Electrical Reliability Specialist will work with the process plant maintenance team to assist operations and technical personnel in identifying and solving day-to-day electrical reliability issues.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identify and act on opportunities to coach site personnel on reliability, maintenance and condition monitoring concepts;
  • Analyze operational data and equipment performance history, evaluating production losses, failure rates, regulatory compliance, and the maintenance costs of equipment and processes to identify key opportunities to minimize the risks that could adversely affect business operations;
  • Develop solution by applying data analysis techniques such as statistical evaluation of the raw data (range, mode, outliers, trends, etc.) and reliability modeling and prediction;
  • Application of advanced troubleshooting skills to assist operations and technical personnel in identifying and solving day-to-day electrical reliability issues;
  • Conduct and provide support for root cause analysis of failure and defect elimination;
  • Identification, development and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities;
  • Ensure safe and efficient maintenance of equipment and identify any potential risks;
  • Properly follow the Company’s policies and Ontario Health & Safety Regulations for safe working procedures and environment.


Our ideal candidate has:

  • Related Technical Diploma, or Engineering Degree is required;
  • A demonstrated strong level of knowledge in maintenance and reliability principles and processes;
  • Training in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and facilitation skills is an asset;
  • Training in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) principles and facilitation skills is an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of predictive maintenance tools associated with electrical failure detection (ultrasonic analysis, dilectric oil analysis, thermography, etc.) and associated software;
  • Strong technical knowledge of medium and high voltage transformers, distribution systems, protection and control, switchgear, breakers, MCC’s, VFD’s (ABB ACS800, ACS880 and ACS6000 series) and process control systems;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands and modify decisions and actions in response to changing information and circumstances;
  • Strong understanding of business objectives and able to align tactical plans with the business objectives;
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to mentor on reliability concepts and the ability to facilitate group discussions;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Outlook, Word, the site CMMS system, and the site process data historian;
  • Experience working in a remote site is considered an asset.
