ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Maintenance Lead Hand (Light Vehicle) to join our Mobile Maintenance team reporting to the Mine Maintenance Light Vehicle Shop Supervisor.
Detour Lake is the largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometers by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
The Mine Maintenance Lead Hand (Light Vehicle) will be responsible for providing support to the Mobile Maintenance team by being accountable for directing the workforce on daily maintenance and repair of the site’s light vehicle fleet.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Direct the activities of a mine maintenance crew to maintain mobile equipment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and endurance.
- Review and manage the completion of work orders for preventive maintenance, planned component replacement, and unplanned repairs
- Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to inform employees of safety and production issues
- Prepare reports on accidents/incidents that occur during the shift in addition of completing detailed documentation of repairs and additional parts required
- Liaise with maintenance planning group to maintain inventory of parts leading to optimal equipment availability
- Properly follow Company’s policies and the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations for safe working procedures and environment
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work area
- Leading and coaching team members in the achievement of maintenance safety and productivity targets.
- Ensure that safety issues are reported to the supervisor and promptly remedied.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
- Ontario provincial or inter-provincial (Red Seal) trade certificate is preferred.
- 10 years’ experience in a maintenance capacity.
- 2-5 years’ experience in a supervisory and/or lead hand role.
- A general understanding of computers; Microsoft & Outlook
- Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team of employees.
- Experience with light vehicle/mobile crane/auxiliary equipment and truck and coach maintenance and repair
- Experience working at a remote work site is an asset.
