ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

 

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Production Geology Co-op Student to join our Technical Services team reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist.  

 

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potentialThe open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

 

Agnico Eagle Mines' Detour Lake Mine is situated on the traditional homelands of the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation, Moose Cree First Nation, and Taykwa Tagamou Nation. The Production Geology Co-op Student will be responsible for supporting the Mine Technical Services team and Mine Geology in efficient and safe mining operations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Provide support to the Mine Geology team in various competences such as RC drilling and Open Pit Grade Control (operational tasks and field based);
  • Exposure to Geotechnical Engineering, Short-Term Planning, Fleet Management and Mine Operations;
  • As assigned, evaluate and provide input to improve processes in the mine affecting quality, safety and productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Our ideal candidate has:

 

  • Student enrolled in a Geology University Program;
  • Experience working at a remote work site is an asset;
  • Proven commitment to health, safety and the environment;
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
  • Exceptional ability to work within a diverse team;
