ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Projects Engineer Co-op Student to join our Projects team, reporting to a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer.  For a temporary 4 or 8 month contract.

Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential.  The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assists Senior Project Engineer/Project Engineer with the execution of the capital projects portfolio;

  • Gather, analyse historical data and perform first principles’ calculations in support of project estimates development, preparation and submission of  Application for Expenditures requests;

  • Perform first principles calculations to support schedule development; 

  • Assists construction supervisors with management of construction activities, monitor daily progress, coordinate activities and resolve conflicts. Assists construction supervisors in ensurance and adherence to all construction health, safety, security and environmental policies and comply with all applicable legal regulations;

  • Contribute and  Maintain accurate records of project progress.

  • Provide input and support to the construction team during the execution including on-site field supervision.

  • Assist with daily reporting, and data entry.

  • Continually strive for improvements in current operational efficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Projects Engineer Coop Student in Mechanical or Civil Engineering;

  • Previous experience in civil or mechanical construction would be considered an asset;

  • Experience with AutoCAD is an asset.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting

  • Strong written and communication skills;

  • Valid drivers license;
