INTRO
Based at the Timmins Regional Office, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Network & Telecom Specialist to support our Regional IT Team, reporting to the Manager IT Ontario Operations.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Regional Network & Telecom Specialist will be a support and project focused role where creative thinking, interpersonal skills, and broad technical expertise is required. This individual will have technical ownership for IT and OT networks that span across the entire enterprise, satisfy business requirements, and are highly available. As such the Regional Network & Telecom Specialist must have a broad technical base spanning IT and OT IP network operation, unified communications/VoIP, and monitoring technology and the interconnectivity between them. This individual will also need to have a strong understanding of wireless technology.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and operate multi-vendor communications and networking equipment including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, WAN accelerators, microwave point-point technologies, provider managed MPLS and NAC.
- Manage all aspects of internal and external IP networks, demonstrating excellent knowledge of IP routing and the supporting protocols (BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP)
- Provide escalation support for the regional communications and wireless infrastructure to a globally distributed team of IT professionals, escalating to vendors when necessary
- Regularly monitor network performance and capacity to ensure equipment and services are functioning and operating at optimal capacity
- Advise local IT staff of outages and problems with the network when required
- Willingness to maintain professional certification levels to meet vendor requirements
- Regularly engaged in day-to-day service assurance providing support to all AEM Ontario regional Operations
- Conduct performance-tuning on network hardware/software technology
- Initiate and implement all projects with inclusion of safe and secure practices
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer studies or equivalent work experience
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to evaluate technical solutions for scalability and fit into existing environment
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to work in a team environment.
- The ability to prioritize, focus and problem solve in a demanding environment
- Mining background is a plus
- Ability to travel regionally, with possible extended deployments at each Operational Site when and if required for operational support or project related requirements
- Able to design complex, and highly available communication solutions
- Able to work flexible hours
- Able to work in a team environment and independently with minimal direction, and able to succeed in a rapidly changing environment.
