Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an Automation Technician to join our Business Intelligence team.

The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle.  Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine. 

The Automation Technician will be responsible to ensure the stable operation and expansion of the surface and underground PLC network. Including 600V and lower electrical installations, Industrial cable install for electrical, fiber optic, telecommunications, and networking.



Your responsibilities may include: 

  • Perform electrical work on new installations, trouble shooting and repairs as required.
  • Installation of mine instrumentation, PLC, as well as PLC and HMI programming.
  • Read, interpret and update drawings, circuit diagrams, blueprints and electrical codes specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations.
  • Lay down wires, splicing and connecting wires, installing switches, circuit breakers.
  • Analyze electrical systems and equipment to figure our why they aren't working.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs on electrical and instrumentation equipment and keep maintenance records.
  • Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair. 
  • Adhere to the OHSA & Acts and Regulations for mines Z463 Standards.
  • Work on assigned daily lineup following work orders and instructions.
  • Provide electrical services to new and used equipment, including the power feed cabling, electrical protection equipment in compliance with ESA rules and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including electrical mobile equipment, power distribution, leaky feeder (communication systems), PLC, motor controls and any other work as assigned. 








  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma / Trade School equivalent.
  • Journeyperson Electrical, Red seal preferred.
  • Journeyperson Instrumentation, Red seal preferred.


  • 2 + years instrumentation WITH 1+ year Electrical Engineering Program AND appropriate experience of at least 2 years in an industrial setting. 


Skills for Success:

  • Excellent written, verbal and problem solving.
  • Able to work independently as required or as a team.
  • Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Interest in electronics and associated technologies
  • Capacity to problem solve, test, measure and assess.
  • Good interpersonal skills, communication both written & oral.
  • Coursework in Computer Science, Programming and/or Networking or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous mining experience is an asset.
  • Fiber Optic telecommunications installation and repair.
