Rotation: 7/7 (7 days on, 7 days off)

This role is not a Camp Based opportunity.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Geologist/GIT to join our Production Geology team.


The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle.  Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine. 

The Mine GIT/Core Logger will be responsible for providing geological support to the Production team, which will focus on logging drill holes using current software.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities of a Mine GIT/Core Logger include:

 

  • Assist in assuring the quality control and quality assurance of samples
  • Monitor and evaluate geological and assay data quality
  • Ensure geological data is collected to specified standards and QA/QC protocol is followed and drill logs are error free and validated
  • Complete field visits to drill sites to check drill site locations both on surface and underground and ensure drill and exploration programs are conducted to high standards and samples are collected and transported to the assay lab efficiently
  • Direct and coordinate employees assigned with consistent Company policies, procedures and standards
  • Aid in completing weekly KPI’s, including assigned drill hole tracking and core logging related tasks
  • Monitor the work and performance of core technicians

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or related Earth Science program
  • Must be registered as a Professional Geoscientist in the Province of Ontario (P.Geo) or be eligible for and working towards professional accreditation in Ontario
  • Ideally have one to three years of experience working in an underground mining or exploration field
  • Experience core logging using a standard geological software
  • Experience using and/or interpreting various types of geological data and previous experience with mining/exploration geological software applications
  • Strong computer and data management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication 
  • High safety standard

  • Sitting, computer use, keyboard skills
  • Lifting, up to 20 kg ground to waist height occasionally, carry equipment distances for measuring purposes
  • Occasional push pull
  • Daily standing, walking over uneven ground
  • Daily in awkward positions – squatting, kneeling, bent over
  • Environment conditions can be hot, cold, humid, wet, dusty
  • Lighting is restricted, may be excessive noise, underground airflow is artificial
  • Ground conditions may be wet, muddy, slippery, sloped inclines, loose rocks and obstacles on the ground
