Location: Macassa Mine, Kirkland Lake, ON

Rotation: 4/3 (4 days on, 3 days off)

This role is not a Camp Based opportunity.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Near Surface Mine Geologist to join our Geology team.

 

The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle.  Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine. 

 

The Near Surface Mine Geologist will report to the Senior Mine Geologist and will be attending to all Geology related matters associated with the Near Surface Mine operation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities of a Near Surface Mine Geologist include:

  • Actively adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and policies while contributing to all safety initiatives
  • Ensure timely and accurate creation and dissemination of all Mine Geology plans, layouts and reports
  • Ensure all efforts are made to maximise grade and minimise dilution through effective geological control
  • Active participation in all forms of communication between Geology, Technical and Operational personnel to ensure collaboration and consistency is achieved
  • Co-ordination of all daily production duties related Mine Geology activities to ensure alignment with other operational requirements, including but not limited to grade calls and geological / geotechnical mapping projects underground
  • Ensure the timely and accurate transfer of geological data into existing data structures such as mapping and reporting libraries, assay databases and geological software
  • All other duties as directed by your supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • +3 years working in an underground production environment preferably with experience in gold
  • Experience with reading and reviewing mine plans focussing on communication of geologically pertinent information
  • Exceptional Computer skills
  • Strong computer and data skills (Data Mine, Fusion, Auto Cad, DH Logger)
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Self starter and ability to work unsupervised although strong team player
  • High safety standards
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor subordinates

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, computer use, keyboard skills
  • Lifting, up to 20 kg ground to waist height occasionally, carry equipment distances for measuring purposes
  • Occasional push pull
  • Daily standing, walking over uneven ground
  • Daily in awkward positions – squatting, kneeling, bent over
  • Environment conditions can be hot, cold, humid, wet, dusty
  • Lighting is restricted, may be excessive noise, underground airflow is artificial
  • Ground conditions may be wet, muddy, slippery, sloped inclines, loose rocks and obstacles on the ground
