ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Based at the Macassa Mine, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mill Operator to join our Mill Operations team reporting to the Mill Supervisor.

The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine.

The Senior Mill Operator is responsible for achieving and improving set targets by maximizing throughput, recovery, and production. In addition to coaching and mentoring others in these processes, optimizing operating cost by eliminating waste, and continuous monitoring of the plant and associated equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Competency in Basic Mill Common core and with modules for Operator 1 as required, working toward Supervisor Common Core.
  • Monitor and maintain metallurgical parameters in all aspects of solutions circuit/stripping circuit accuracy in reporting of process data in relevant documents (e.g. Excel).
  • Monitor all instrumentation used to control the process in your area of responsibility, advising the appropriate people of defective equipment.
  • Identify and take necessary corrective action to maintain established parameters and to bring the circuit into the established parameter ranges.
  • Perform quality control tests and adjusts as required to ensure that the circuit operates within the established product quality parameters.
  • Keep up to date with changes in operating parameters, equipment, procedures, and process control strategies in your area of responsibility.
  • Make recommendations to supervision for efficiency, safety, and production improvements.
  • Undertake project work with Metallurgy.
  • Prioritize work and multi-tasking while following standard operating procedures, working safely, leading by example.
  • Provide relief on grinding, solutions or crushing as required.
  • Provide relief to Shift Supervisor from time to time.
  • Have familiarity with other areas including Water Treatment Plant, Tailings Areas, Surface Operations and Assay Lab and accurately filling out daily shift reports and logbooks.
  • Assist with developing and writing standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with the coaching, mentorship, and development of mill operations crews, and provide mill operational expertise to all circuits.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 6 years’ experience as a Mill Operator 1 or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario OHSA Mining Regulations and Safety Program.
  • Train the Trainer Certification preferred.
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Adaptable, must be able to provide relief in all areas of Mill Operations
  • Able to work both independently and collaborate with others.
  • Mechanically inclined.
