ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Based at the Macassa Mine, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Surface Leadhand to join our Surface Operations team.
The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine.
The Surface Leadhand along with the Surface Supervisor is responsible for supporting the safe achievement of site production goals. In addition, the Surface Leadhand will assist in the coaching and mentoring of others and will provide relief coverage for both operational and supervisory duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Competency in Surface Common core and with modules up to Surface Utility Operator 2 or equivalent
- Assisting in all roles that are required and responding appropriately to these needs, including seasonal activity, shoveling snow, spreading sand, enabling safe access to work for others
- Provide relief coverage in Fixed Plant, Machinery and Mobile Equipment Operations
- Ensuring that the work areas, equipment and work practices comply with the regulatory codes, statutes and company requirements.
- Prioritizing work and multi-tasking while following standard operating procedures, working safely, leading by example.
- Liaising effectively with colleagues and managers regarding various work situations and the activities within the department.
- Making recommendations to leadership for efficiency, safety, and production improvements.
- Ensuring accuracy in reporting of process data in relevant software (e.g. Excel, INX).
- Have familiarity with other areas including Water Management, Tailings Areas, Mill Operations and Mine Operations and accurately filling out daily shift reports
- Assist with developing and writing standard operating procedures.
- Assist with the coaching, mentorship, and development of surface operations crews
- Provide relief coverage to Surface Supervisor in their absence
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
- Successfully completed Supervisor Common Core or is willing to obtain within first 6 months
- Successfully completed Train the Trainer or is willing to obtain within first 6 months
- Experience in all aspects of fixed plant operations (operating, troubleshooting, training etc.)
- Significant skill in mobile equipment operations.
- Minimum competency on loader, excavator, grader.
- Skill in other types of mobile equipment is an asset.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Handling experience is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Prior experience using ERP software (SAP, JDE etc.) is an asset
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) is essential
- Capacity to coach, mentor, and support others
- Valid and clean G class License (Minimum)
- Ability to lift and carry loads up to a maximum of 50 lbs
