ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Based at the Macassa Mine, we currently have an exciting opportunity for Co-Op Student in our Tailings and Water Management team reporting to the Sr. Tailings and Water Management Advisor.
The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine.
The Tailings and Water Management Co-Op Student is part of a team that provides safe operational, maintenance and monitoring activities related to Macassa Mill tailings storage facilities and water management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Tailings and Water Management Supervisor and Tailings and Water Management EIT in geotechnical instrumentation and construction projects (planning, construction supervision, instrumentation install, troubleshooting, programing etc.)
- Assisting on projects in all types of integrated mill tailings and water management systems (tailings dams and deposition, seepage control, diversion channels, water management ponds, spillways, tailings thickener, etc.) under operating and closure conditions.
- Working with operators, maintenance, environmental, electrical & instrumentation in all facets of process training, understanding, safety, and general work related to tailings and water management systems.
- Communicating and working with other department supervisors that support tailings activities (i.e. process operations, site services, environmental)
- Participating in field inspections of water and tailings management infrastructures (tailings dams, pumping systems, drainage infrastructures etc.)
- Assisting in the preparation and evaluation of proposals, trade-off studies, feasibility to detailed engineering studies, specifications and engineering reports involving tailings and water management systems.
- Assisting in the update of the tailings system management
- Actively look for methods and system improvements to the tailings and water management systems.
- Any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
- Currently working towards a Civil, Geological or Mining engineering degree or technical college diploma.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and CAD.
- Entry level position- set experience time not a pre-requisite.
- Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken.
- Must have strong interpersonal, communication and team building skills.
